BlueCaP RAs graced CDO for FMA 9 Capacity Building

One of FishCoRe’s key proponents, the Fisheries Management Area 9 (FMA 9), recently conducted a workshop-training titled, “Assessing Mangrove and Seagrass Ecosystem’s Blue Carbon Potential and Policy Inventory in FMA 9“. Technical personnel from the five FMA Coordinating Units in FMA 9 participated in the training held in Cagayan de Oro last December 2 – 5, 2025.

Blue CaP research associates (RAs), Sean Manalo and Precious Jacob, attended the event as resource speakers. They shared the Blue CaP study results in a series of technical presentations. They also highlighted practical lessons for FMA 9, emphasizing the need to protect their extensive, pristine, and intact mangroves for “carbon permanence”. The RAs also facilitated a blue carbon readiness workshop (similar to the Stakeholder workshop that was previously conducted for the study proper). Through this, the participants gained insights that can guide them in making more informed interventions and decisions for the management of blue carbon ecosystems, especially at the LGU level.

We thank FMA 9 for inviting the BlueCaP members. We sincerely hope that the results of our study can be translated into real benefits not just for FMA 9, but also for FMA 6 and the entire country.
