Medan City, Indonesia — The 2023 Summer Course organized by Center of Excellence for Mangrove (CoE Mangrove) of Universitas Sumatera Utara was held from August 30 – September 3, 2023 with the theme “Journey Among North Sumatran Mangrove.”
Lex Matthew V. Limjuco and Mareah Wayne A. Maramag, research staff of the PEER ManCoRe Project, were invited to participate in the international summer course along with students and researchers from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Headed by Dr. Mohammad Basyuni, CoE Mangrove invited several esteemed researchers and lecturers to share their work on mangrove ecology and other related fields of expertise. PEER ManCoRe’s Project Leader, Dr. Severino G. Salmo III, was included in the roster of lecturers where he discussed about the role of mangroves in coastal protection. The summer course also included a field trip to Beras Basah Village, where the participants joined in the International Community Service activities of the course. These included mangrove planting and honeybee harvesting.
